Hi all,
I thought it was a great idea to keep our learning going even when we are not together in class. Mandarin is a difficult language; but it doesn't mean we can't master it and have fun. A lot of people don't even take the first step to try and I congratulate every one of you in this class on your first step. An old Chinese saying goes, "a thousand mile journey begins with one step." This will be a journey for all of us. Regardless what your motivation is to be here, let's all help each other get as far as possible in this journey.

my experience the last few weeks have been great. i'm not a language person by any means but i love this class. its probably one of the hardest classes I've ever taken for the soul reason that is so different from anything I've ever done before. i find that tones and putting together the initials and the finals together so hard. i think its because when you explain how to pronounce b for example i think of it as boa so putting it with another vowel just is difficult. but i'm going to figure it out i'm sire. i love this class and everything about it. i walk around to all the classes after that repeating what ever i learned that day. love it!

For the past two weeks I have been attending a Mandarin class at my high school. So far it has been a wonderful experience and I can honestly say I look forward to going to class every morning. However, my first thoughts about attending a Mandarin class were not very positive and I thought that by the end of the drop-add period I would have first period free. To my surprise I found the the class to be the complete opposite. Lin Lao Shi and the rest of my classmates have made the class enjoyable and I believe that our constant practicing in the hallways have made a couple people envious. As my classmates and I leave the classroom, we take our daily lessons and try show some of our Taiwanese and Chinese peers what we learned that day. It is so encouraging seeing their reactions as we show them that we can say hello, recite our initials and a few finals and from time to time even say little quotes. I am so excited to learn more even though I know this class is not going to be the easy. with the help and encouragement of my eager to learn classmates and our wonderful teacher, I believe that we are all going to be successful in this class. My experience in Mandarin class has been great so far Lin Lao Shi. I have learned so many new things so far and i am looking forward to learning more about the Chinese culture. I am really interested in the eastern mind set and I would love to visit and spend some time in China during my life. The most interesting and fun lesson so far was learning the alphabet and learning how to count to ten on one hand.
All in all i can't wait for the year to progress and learn more about China, and hopefully one day i can speak Mandarin fluently.

When i first decide to take on the Chinese language i must admit i was a bit skeptical. However, as time progressed within the classroom i seemed to enjoy the lessons more and more. I like how much the students are required to interact. I also enjoy learning all about the Chinese culture, Ive already learned an immense amount of new information that i did not know prior to the class. I agree with beck when he said that his favorite lessons thus far have been learning the Pinyin. I also thought it was extremely interesting to learn how the Chinese can count up to ten on only one hand. Ive taken Spanish for a total of three years and have hardly had a class that has been as interesting as the mandarin classes that I've attended!

The past two weeks of mandarin have been reassuring. Or in other words, has given me the message that it is posable to learn mandarin. The language seems much more approachable after two weeks of class than what i had speculated beforehand. It is a bit difficult to train your voice to make sounds outside of what your native language entails, but thats to be expected. I strongly approve of the manner in which this class is being conducted. Its interactive, the only way to learn a language. To date this has been a positive experience. This is probably one of the most useful languages too!
My experience has been very fun and interesting so far. I think that the pinyin has been so different than any other language i have ever taken that it makes it that much more fun to learn. I love the hands on learning environment in the class. I also like the way the characters look in general just the whole language is so cool i wish i knew more of it. I think that the class as a whole is pretty crowded but for a good reason. Because once people found out how cool and interesting, chinese was they all wanted to learn it!
